I was just hired and enrolled in the PERAPlus 401(k) Plan, I tried to change my investment mix over the phone by calling PERA and selecting the PERAPlus option, but my Social Security number wasn’t recognized. What’s wrong?

Question:
Can I use my existing PERA PIN to access my account information?

Answer:
You will need to log in using a User ID and password to access your account information online.

If you have not yet created your User ID and password to access your PERA account, you will first log in using your Social Security number (SSN) and PIN. You will then be prompted to create a new security user profile including a User ID and password. Once you have completed your security profile, you will only be able to log on using your User ID/password combination.

Note: You will still need to use your PIN when calling Voya to obtain Plan information or to speak with a Participant Services Representative.

Question:
How do I use the Self-Directed Brokerage Account?

Answer:
You must transfer $1,000 or more to open a Self-Directed Brokerage Account with TD Ameritrade and must keep at least $500 invested in the PERAdvantage funds. Money in the PERAdvantage funds will be used to pay the annual $50 self-directed brokerage fee. You will also be subject to additional transaction and management fees for your activities and investments in the brokerage account. The Plan administration asset-based fee for the Self-Directed Brokerage Account has been reduced to 0 percent because PERA receives revenue sharing from TD Ameritrade.

Question:
How quickly can I get my money when I make requests for loans, withdrawals, and distributions?

Answer:
Generally, withdrawal and distribution checks are mailed first class within three business days of receiving all of your signed forms and documents.

For loans, it takes about three business days after your initial loan request to generate a loan note. Providing the loan is approved, a check will be issued and mailed within three business days after the Plan receives your completed and signed documents.

Non-hardship withdrawals (after age 59½) and final distributions can be requested online or by the phone. The distribution check will be mailed within three business days. Question:
How do I find out how much I owe on my loan(s)?

Answer:
Your outstanding loan balance is available by logging on to your PERAPlus account through PERA's website and selecting "Loans". Question:

Question:
What happens if I default on a loan?

Answer:
If you default on a loan from your account, it is considered to be a “deemed distribution.” If the loan is from your pre-tax account, you’ll owe income taxes on the money, and if you’re under age 59½, an additional 10 percent early withdrawal penalty may be assessed on the amount that is being defaulted. If the loan is from your Roth account, the deemed distribution will not be treated as a qualified distribution. If you have a defaulted loan you will not be allowed to take another loan.

Question:
Can I repay a loan even after it’s been considered “in default?”

Answer:
Yes, you can repay a defaulted loan, together with accrued post-default interest. This repayment must be made in a lump-sum with after-tax dollars.

Question:
I have a current loan and I'm on a military leave of absence. How do I handle my loan payments?

Answer:
You may continue to make your loan payments via ACH. If your loan was issued prior to October 1, 2011 and your loan repayments are made via payroll deduction you may submit manual monthly loan payments via cashier’s check, certified check, money order or personal check made payable to the Colorado PERA 401(k) Plan. Participants on military leave are allowed to suspend payments for up to five years equal to the time they are on leave. Interest will accrue on missed loan payments and the loan's maturity date will be extended by the length of time that you were on military leave.
